Meet our Interns!
Sissi Chavez
As a Círculo de poetas & Writers Intern, I would like to learn new experiences and gain new skills. I am majoring in Political Science at Cabrillo College, and I would love to double major in Spanish after I transfer to a 4-year college or university. In the Fall semester at Cabrillo, I discovered what a creative writer I am. Not only will this internship help me gain new skills, but it will also help me improve my writing. I am in the Honors Program at Cabrillo, which is a program for highly motivated students who want to challenge themselves academically. I enrolled in this program because I knew I could go above and beyond in my writing. I plan to be a lawyer to give back to my community and help people in need.

Clarice Velazquez
Clarice Velazquez is a 2nd-year undergraduate at Cabrillo College, looking to transfer with an associate's degree in psychology. They hope to develop a career in high school counseling. Clarice enjoys freestyle BMX and Mixed Martial Arts. They are passionate about furthering experiences and collaborating with the community.
The Círculo de poetas & Writers Internship
Interns Work Behind the Scenes at our Annual Conference
Interns help with our annual conference in August that is held in person and online. This is a volunteer position with a stipend. (Applicants must live in Santa Cruz County and should be able to attend the conference in-person in August.)
Duties include:
- Attend planning meetings in June and July
- Post on social media and other light "tech" duties
- Set up and take down tables and chairs
- Monitor food table
- Welcome conference participants at the check-in table
- Cashier duties selling books
- Other tasks that arise during the conference to help make everything flow smoothly!
- About 15 to 20 hours, including the all-day conference early August
The Círculo summer conference is our major annual event. The conference includes break-out sessions where participants write poetry and fiction. Each workshop is open to all writers, from those just starting their writing journey to published authors. The conference concludes with a "Reading and Open Mic" open to all participants. Círculo interns help make the conference a success!
