Join us for National Poetry Month at the Watsonville Public Library on Saturday, April 5th, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Free. This is a hybrid event: in person and online!
Local poets Aideed Medina, Christopher Rendon, and Sara Santistevan will read their poems alongside Aldo Amparán, Natalia Treviño, and Laura Villareal who appear via Zoom. The poets will be in conversation with Adela Najarro about Latinidad and the places we call home.
For nearly five centuries, the rich tapestry of Latino poetry has been woven from a wealth of languages and cultures. With distinctive rhythms, lyricism, and candor, and nuanced understandings of place, history, and origin, Latino poets have brought dazzling insight to what it means to make a home in America. We hope to have a lovely poetry reading and conversation!
Free and open to the public. Online and in person at the Watsonville Library.
This program is presented as part of Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home, a major public humanities initiative taking place across the nation in 2024 and 2025, directed by Library of America and funded with generous support from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
Go to the Latino Poetry: Places We Call Home website and explore the possibilities of Latino life and poetry!
